"For the Love of Flowers" is the theme for the 152nd Oswego County Fair. The fair is having a special flower exhibition highlighting many local gardeners and floral designers. Dowd's also has a design of their own on display titled: "Emerald Phoenix." The Phoenix is one of the many known styles in floral design. It received its name from the fabled bird that lives for 500 years or more and then destroys itself by fire, rising from the ashes to begin life anew. The Phoenix design is the regeneration of a round symmetrical form with a burst of material from its center. The base design is a traditional, compact, radial design with very little space between the flowers. It is fresh and eye-catching: the rebirth of a traditional form.

Our flowers have been on a long journey from California, Canada, Europe or even South America. From the moment they arrive we welcome them as our guests. We look at it this way; we are simply a bed and breakfast for these pretty little visitors that are passing through for a short rest on their way to see you! When they get here we take off their coat and any excess baggage they may have with them. We carefully inspect that they are not ill from their travels. We give them fresh water, some food and a little dip to liven them up from their droopy slumber. Then after they’ve begun to perk up we settle them into their cool and cozy accommodations in our cooler. During their stay we play the perfect host by changing their water, keeping them safe from danger like heat, fruit and other ill visitors. Flowers at Dowd’s are not just flowers they are practically family. We give them the utmost attention and care, fully conditioning every stem and bloom, quality that ensures they last the longest they can.

Congratulations to Kaylee Spataro! She is the winner of our Dozen Long Stem Red Rose giveaway.
Kaylee stopped in to visit us Saturday at our Grand Opening with her sister and her dad. This little cutie was so shy before receiving her roses but all smiles when she had them in her hand!
